Archbishop Heerey Technical College Ogidi, is one of the schools established by the missionaries in the Old Eastern Region of Nigeria. In 1950s, Archbishop Charles Heerey entered into a land agreement with Odida community in Ogidi to found a secondary/Technical school. After the preliminary preparations, the school was officially established in the late 1966 as Archbishop Heerey Secondary Technical School, Ogidi. Her first students formallly started receiving formal education from January, 1967. It commenced with about 50 students, in class 1A and B. The students were both borders and day students. The first Principal of the school was Rev. Fr. C. C. Cunningham.

The technical section of the school was well equipped with big generator and some heavy duty machines. It started off with few technical trades: Woodwork, Hardwares and Mechanical. From Many Indications, Archbishop Heerey secondary school, Ogidi was destined to become a great and renowned school. In 1967, the school was closed to enable students find safe havens with their family. After the war, in 1970, almost all the buildings were devastated. Some of the students tried commencing their studies again in the school, under very challenging circumstances. Sequel to the ill-advised education policy of the military government of Eastern Nigeria, schools were forcefully taken-over by the government.This school was one of the victims of the ofortunate policy. To make the take-over complete, the school academic program was reverted to a conventional secondary school, and name changed to Boys' Secondary School Ogidi.

Fortunately, in 2011, through the intervention of the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi(Okwute), mission schools were returned to their Original Owners. Boys' Secondary School, Ogidi, was one of the 'returned schools'. At the wake of the return of the schools, the Proprietor, Most Rev. Valerian M. Okeke directed that the Original name of the school, Archbishop Heerey Secondary Technical school be restored.
